Wow! This is crazeee…. you’ve GOT to listen to this short report from NPR’s Morning Edition (05/30/2007) by Chana Joffe-Walt:
Firms Hire Consultants to Handle Needy Workers
Companies are hiring consultants to help manage the “over-praised” Me Generation. The result? Kudos for showing up to work on time! Awards for getting a report in! Forget Employee of the Month — how about Employee of the Day! Some managers are resistant, saying the only praise they ever got was a paycheck.

Insert squeal of delight here! The Police Tour kicked off in Vancouver last night and the reviews have (so far) been postitive! Excellent timing as we just purchased our plane tix for the Dallas show… (”we’re all going to Dallas! we’re all going to Dallas!” ~again, Joel C. that was for you…heh heh). We can’t wait to hang out with Aaron, Janelle, Rach, Glenn & Wes (we’ll really miss you Court!!) and see all of our Texas friends… can “all y’all” believe it’s been three years since we’ve been gone??!! ;)

Okay… I freely admit it, I can be such a geek sometimes… what can I say, I really like this great new “READ” poster. Not that I have any place to put it but I do appreciate cool nerdiness of it. ;D

We’re so proud of Nathaniel! He graduated from Warren Wilson College last weekend. The ceremony took place on a BEAUTIFUL North Carolina morning. It was only about an hour long and we enjoyed every minute- especially the part where he walked across the stage to pick up his diploma and hemlock seedling! :D He also received the Senior Work award for being the hardest-workingest-student on campus! wooohoo!! :D

Isn’t this the prettiest little bud vase??! Ann Lindell, the head librarian of the UF Architecture and Fine Arts Library, gave this to me as a ‘thank you’ for the work I did on the ARLIS/NA 2007 Conference Website. Geez, I’d volunteer for WAY more things out there in the world if the prize at the end was something as lovely as this!!! ;) The flowers are from her garden too. What a REALLY nice way to start a Monday! Thanks Ann!! :D

A recent report by the Pew Internet and American Life Project categorized technology users into 10 groups: http://www.pewinternet.org/PPF/r/140/press_release.asp I think I’m probably closest to being a Productivity Enhancer (which, BTW, sounds like a spam-mail subject line…haha):
Productivity Enhancers (8%): They have strongly positive views about how technology lets them keep up with others, do their jobs, and learn new things. They are frequent and happy ICT users whose main focus is personal and professional communication.
BUT if I had more time and lots-o-money, I could see myself totally geekin’ out and being an Omnivore:
Omnivores (8%): They have the most information gadgets and services, which they use voraciously to participate in cyberspace, express themselves online, and do a range of Web 2.0 activities. Most in this group are men in their mid- to late twenties.

OMG! I am SO excited!!!! The blueberries on my Florida native blueberry plant are starting to ripen!!! The blueberries on this plant are half the size of a regular blueberry but they pack a super-sweet punch! mmmmm! I ate my first one tonight and gave the other one to Tim. It was so good- I wish more than a couple were ready to eat. :) I’m def. gonna keep an eye on this plant for newly ripened ones as Tim pointed out that the birds might have a field day with all the berries. I’ve been waiting too long to share with those guys! :P

I am in debt to Gary Shipes for the rest of my life. He introduced me to Hal Hartley’s work back in the early 90s and to this day, Simple Men is, hands down, my all-time favorite film, ever. I love all of Hartley’s work but this one still stands above all. When Gary handed me that glorious dubbed copy, labeled ever so neatly in his flawless, block handwriting, he told me that this would be a film by which I would judge all future films… he was absolutely correct.
I lost contact with Gary after Tim and I moved to Texas and became tangled up in life & school. If you ever run into him, please tell him “Thank You” for me- his suggestions in film and music changed my life…my perceptions of all forms of art altered forever…in a very, very good way. :)
Looking forward to May 22: Fay Grim
