It’s a Wonderful Internet…
Posted by Stacey on Monday Dec 31, 2007 Under GeekeryThis is a really fun story: http://www.itsawonderfulinternet.com/ Be sure to hover over all the objects in each room- many of them have sounds or vocals. I love pop-up storybooks! :)
Tim had a GREAT time hiking the AT with Bob & Nathaniel Fenton. They did about 30 miles of the trail between 12/22 and 12/24.

happy days are here again…
Posted by Stacey on Wednesday Dec 19, 2007 Under LifeWooohoooo! This and that much closer to holiday break!! YAY!!!! This week, although hectic, is goin’ much better than last! I SO can’t wait for Friday!!
We ROCKED the InfoCommons today! We hosted a Guitar Hero III Event to help students blow off a little pre-finals steam.
About 50-60 people showed up between Noon and 4pm to rock out with us in the InfoCommons. Not bad turnout considering we didn’t really advertise outside of a few list-serv posts and a couple of dry erase board signs. Most of our head count came from curious library folk but we had an equal number of students who were happy to take a break and have a little fun. :D
The response to the event was very positive and we only had two complaints in the four hours. We offered to help those two students relocate to one of the many empty spaces on the “designated quiet floors” of 1 and 4 but they declined- deciding to just stay near our area. I might have felt a little bad for them but the library was quite empty that day and there was more than enough space for them to find a quiet spot on the quiet floors or even over in the West wing of the same floor.
We also had ear plugs on hand for anyone who might want a pair but no takers. Most students studying around our area were plugged into their iPods anyway so the sound didn’t seem to bother them at all. We had quite a few students take breaks from studying, walk up to take a turn at the game, and then go right back to studying. :D

the future of reading…
Posted by Stacey on Wednesday Dec 5, 2007 Under Big Brother, books, library stuffRan across an interesting article at lunch today called The Future of Reading by Mark Pilgrim. Actually it’s more of a play, in six acts, commenting on DRM and eBooks. It’s essentially a mashup of Jeff Bezos’ Open Letter to the Authors Guild, the Amazon Kindle Terms of Service, Steven Levy’s Newsweek article on the Kindle, Orwell’s 1984, and Richard Stallman’s ‘The Right to Read.’ Well done sir.
We had weekend that was seriously muy fantastico!! Wes came all the way up from Stuart for a visit and it was really great to see him. He brought Rock Band with him and along with Amanda and Huseyin, we rocked Gainesville like supah-stars until the wee, weeeeeee hours of the morning. It was awesome! The only thing that could’ve made it better was if Court had been able to come along too, but she was busy doing super-healthy, goal-oriented things like running a 5K in Ocala, putting us all to shame… ;)

Pic of Wes outside the Dragonfly while we were waiting for Amanda and Huseyin to show up. It was a really nice night out and it wasn’t too busy downtown yet. We even found parking right outside. How about that?! :)
Final Count: 32,368
Posted by Stacey on Monday Dec 3, 2007 Under NanowrimoWell, I didn’t make it to 50,000 this year but I’m really not as bummed about it as I thought I would be. Actually, I’m pretty damn satisfied when I take a sec to think about what an insanely busy month it’s been (at work AND at home). A bunch of people have asked if they could read what I wrote…hahahahaha…yeah right. Sorry folks, not until Nanoedmo (National Novel Editing Month) is over and done with in the springtime!! :) Maybe I’ll have some more word count by then! :D Anyway, thumbs up on Nano- it was alot of fun and I learned ALOT!
