Tim got a chance to go fishing yesterday with Ali and Ben. They went over to Crescent Beach on the east coast. Weather was beautiful and Tim caught three fish. We cooked them up that night and they were amazing. I’d never had fish so fresh that it had no scent- too weird! :)

Wow- this is a really cool little blurb written by International Space Station Science Officer Don Pettit. He’s trying to describe the smell of space! I love it! :D

Pam Whitaker lost her home to a tornado while she was volunteering at the tiny hospital in her little town in TN, helping others who’d been hurt in the storms. I can’t believe how well she holds it together in this interview despite everything she’s been through in the past 48 hours.
In the video clip, she is standing there so very politely answering questions from a CNN reporter even though she is now homeless, with only .15 cents to her name, the clothes on her back, and a broken foot (from being accidentally run over by a mobile x-ray machine at the hospital).
At the very end of the interview, the reporter, wishes her well, looks down at her feet and says, “We’re going to have to get you some shoes, first off.” She softly replies, “I got feet, that’s all that matters…”

I love the hawks that sit in the tree a few buildings away from mine. On stressful days, it’s really nice to look out my office window and see them hanging out and scanning this side of campus for “rogue were-squirrels” to feast upon. Sometimes there is only one and lately there have been two (I think they’re married…heh).
I finally brought in a pair of binoculars (thanks Clannus Austinus!) so I could get a better zoom on them than my camera would yield and was able to ID them. They’re red-tailed hawks. According to some sites (on teh interwebs) they weigh between 1-4lbs and can have a wingspan up to 4ft! My two hawks are 2+ years old as their tailfeathers are red and not brown. Apparently when they dive for prey, they fly as fast as 120mph!! They eat prey that is racoon-sized or smaller (Carrie- make sure to keep Ramses on that lead!!). They live a fairly long life in the wild- 10-15 years (20-23 in captivity). Very cool.

This eve, I’m at Harbucks trying to get some readin’-n-writin’ done for work. A few minutes ago, a retired couple sat down in the squishy chairs next to my table. Man oh man, does this guy ever look like George Costanza’s dad- really! They could be twins! I wish I had a cell phone camera (or even a cell phone! haha). The wife looks a little less like George’s mom but is wearing the glasses and pantsuit.
Every once in awhile, the door to the cafe will open, swirl up the air, and send the thick cloying scent of her perfume my way. Kind of like roses but more in a Glade air-freshner sort of way. mmmmm… :P I think I’m having South Florida flashbacks… ;)

Darnit, the recurring “tornado” dreams are back again. In the past, they usually show up around times of pending change and/or upheaval in my life. sigh.
This particular dream took place in Texas and I was driving a minivan and heading East across the Main Street/I-35 Overpass in Lewisville. Rachel, Glenn, and Sammi were in the car with me. I looked over to my right and could see the huge tornado heading North, up the interstate, towards us, dust flying everywhere and blacking out signs of its destruction, skies dark and ominous with no rain. Once we got on the other side of the overpass we were (magically) down on A1A in Palm Beach, tornado was gone and we were off to do shopping at some warehouse storage space…in another state… weird.
