Okay, I’ll admit it- I. hate. musicals. I do, I really do. Honestly, I try hard to avoid drinking from the well of Hatorade, but when it comes to musicals, I jump in with both feet and tell Lassie not to bother finding anyone to fish me out. Leave me alone, I’m happy down in that well, hiding from trite melodies and lyrics.

I’m sorry, but I do not get warm fuzzies remembering all those times I was trapped in the pit orchestra (to keep my music scholarship!), playing for Bye Bye Birdie, Sound of Music, Music Man and one other musical that has finally escaped my memory (thank you jeh-zus!). I am also proud to say that I’ve never seen Cats, Rent, Les Miserables, Wicked, etc. Please don’t waste your time trying to convince me otherwise, many before you have tried and all have failed.

But then, one day, along comes this clever guy, with a few of his clever friends. They get together, have a few beer, a few laughs and brainstorm on an idea which soon snowballs into a real project without a budget, funded by their own pocket change and starring one of my ‘favoritest’ actors from one of my ‘favoritest’ movies and then, before I knew it, BAM!

Damn you Joss Whedon, damn you straight to hell…

Hurry, it gets pulled on July 20th and then it’s pay to download only (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing).

Nothing but Trouble and Desire…

Posted by Stacey on Friday May 4, 2007 Under Film, Friends, Music, heroes, video

I am in debt to Gary Shipes for the rest of my life. He introduced me to Hal Hartley’s work back in the early 90s and to this day, Simple Men is, hands down, my all-time favorite film, ever. I love all of Hartley’s work but this one still stands above all. When Gary handed me that glorious dubbed copy, labeled ever so neatly in his flawless, block handwriting, he told me that this would be a film by which I would judge all future films… he was absolutely correct.

I lost contact with Gary after Tim and I moved to Texas and became tangled up in life & school. If you ever run into him, please tell him “Thank You” for me- his suggestions in film and music changed my life…my perceptions of all forms of art altered forever…in a very, very good way. :)

Looking forward to May 22: Fay Grim

Did everyone get a chance to see Gina Thorsen on GMT last month??! http://www.wfaa.com/sharedcontent/VideoPlayer/videoPlayer.php?vidId=128604
I was going through my email, ran across this link again, and thought it would be good to share. We’re so proud of her- she’s totally worked her butt off for this grant and for the program. I’m in awe of her here- she’s so dang calm through the interview- I’d be such a nervous wreck! Gina- you’re my she-ro!! ;D

Next time I tell you someone from Texas should not be president of the United States, please pay attention. ~Molly Ivins

Last night was such a bummer- we checked email and news right before bedtime and saw that we lost yet another bright light in this world. I’d always hoped that I would run into Molly when we lived in Texas. Her writing never failed to entertain and enlighten and she’s been at the top of my list of ‘red-headed heroines’ since 1995, when I read one of her editorials for the first time. She certainly wasn’t afraid to let people know what was on her mind! This brilliant, STRONG, powerful, fearless woman was an incredible role-model with a wicked sense of humor. Cancer sucks.
